NETWORK INSTALLATIONS
The
network installation of Hurrtrak is network unaware.. i.e., the system
does not know it is running on a network. The
server install puts all of the applications executables and data onto its system
while the workstation install installs the necessary windows components and defines
the server executables as shortcuts. The
only exception is the street database which is installed on both server and workstation.
Performance
Considerations:
There
are 3 significant application performance considerations when running the software
on a network.
1. Polling
Interval -
Normal polling interval (new data, alerts, etc) occur every 8 seconds.
With the network installation
we install a special timerint.dat file that changes this interval to 50 seconds.
This is to reduce
frequent I/O to the server.
2.
Local
Streetdata
We highly recommend that you install the mapping data locally on your PC.
This is done via a
full workstation installation.
If you are upgrading
a 2012
workstation, and did not install the streetdata locally during the 2011 install,
we suggest you do a 2012 new workstation install (winstall) rather than an update
(wupdate).
3.
Map
Selection Tab -
If you do not install the
mapping files on the workstations hard drive (#2 above), and find the variable mapping
performance unacceptable, we suggest that you only use the standard tracking charts
and avoid the variable map function.
Network Considerations & Directory Structure
The following diagrams describe how the network administrator should set up the authorities on the network directories. This model assumes that the "signon required" field is set ON in the System setup (SYSTEM) program.
